Tile Selection

Today we had our tile selection appointment at the National Tiles/Porter Davis Tile Boutique in Port Melbourne.  I was apprehensive about picking our tiles before our colour appointment (which is tomorrow) but you have to start somewhere!  Our consultant was a great help.  Ultimately we selected one of the most popular styles, a 300x600 polished porcelain called Wet Cement (SKU code MAXFL136).  Our feature tile for the bathroom/ensuite vanities and laundry is Silk Olive.

We chose No 64 "Mocha" grout, which will be slightly lighter than the standard tile in the same tone.

We are tiling all the standard areas, as well as the study.  If you have a look at our floorplan you can see that the study is part of the open plan living area, and it seemed odd to us to carpet just one corner of the area.  All bedrooms, the rumpus room and the walk in robe will be carpeted.

On the walk in robe, we were told that in this design it is technically classed as a wet area so we could tile it if we wanted to, but decided to stick to carpet.

We have raised the height of the bath splashback to the same as the vanity splashback.  Tiles will be laid straight (as opposed to brick lay, and niche and bath trims will be polished silver.

The quote is very detailed, but the main costs were:

Upgrade to 300x600mm polished porcelain "Wet Cement" in entry, kitchen, pantry, family room, dining, laundry, ensuite, bathroom & WC floors including bathtop: $7,630.13

Upgrade as above to bathroom shower walls, bath hob and splashback: $367.29

Upgrade as above to ensuite shower walls: $313.71

Tile study floor in lieu of standard carpet: $1,322.06

All up, the tile quote came in at $10,268.84

I am a bit nervous about the colours, but was assured that the tiles were very versatile and will suit a range of different kitchen or bathroom colour schemes.  Hopefully after colour selection tomorrow I will feel more at ease (although arguably there will just be more for me to worry about!)

Just a note about bricks too; today we went and checked out some of the bricks that we weren't able to see yesterday.  The Kurrajong was not as nice as we had expected, so we have settled on Mocha (cat 4), with Brown Terrain (cat 2) as our budget option.
